For the blissfully unaware, World of Warcraft is what's called an MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role playing game). You've probably heard about the most popular game in this genre, Everquest. Everquest is the game where a young man creates an wizard, guides him though weeks, months, and years of adventuring in the online world, then swallows a bottle of sleeping pills after getting slain by an elf. A grim spectacle, yes, but perhaps that's the way nature intended it.
Anyway the biggest MMORPG these days is World of Warcraft, which already is estimated to have over 600,000 subscribers dutifully paying fifteen bucks a month to roam around Azeroth. Every so often the developers have to patch the game to fix bugs, correct balancing issues between the various classes, and add new content. We're due for a patch in WoW any day now. What are some of the suprises in store for us?
10. Fishing now even more boring.
9. Added "Zerg Rush" spell to avoid Korean boycott.
8. "Care Bear" race added to PvE servers.
7. Ironforge is officially renamed "Lagforge"
6. 50 gold starting bonus for all characters with clever names like "Asholle" or "BucKNakEd."
5. Whales added as universal mount.
4. The Hermit quest reward is changed to "Abercrombie's Hoodie Pullover"- Equiping reduces your honor with all factions.
3. To prevent lag, players now wait in line to use the auction house one at a time.
2. Mechanostriders (Gnome mount) replaced with Segway.
And the #1 Surprise in the next World of Warcraft patch:
1. Blizzard fixes the big graphical glitch that's lagging the system. Players now greeted with: West of House - You are standing in an open field...
And the runners-up:
- 75% less suckage
- Everyone with a star wars related name receives cool lightsaber.
- To prevent server overload, AFK timeout shortened from 20 minutes to 45 seconds.
- Stupid people banned from general chat.... results in 90% less activity.
- Quest added to save Deckward Cain from a large metal cage hanging over a fire.
