The Unlucky Tourist

A stirring picture has been circulating around the Internet this week. It seems to be of a tourist on the observation deck of one of the World Trade Center towers moments before the attack:

In case you're wondering, it's a fake. Put together by someone with a weird sense of humor and minimal photoshop skills. Here's what's wrong:

  • The guy is bundled up for winter, yet it was around 70 degrees (F) that morning in New York
  • This is supposedly a shot of the first plane before it crashed into the north tower. The attack was made at 8:45am, and the observation decks don't open until 9:00am.
  • Even if it would have been after nine - the view behind the tourist shows the area of Manhattan that's north of the towers. Only one of the airplanes came in from the north, and the tower it hit did not have an observation deck.
  • Wouldn't an airplane moving at hundreds of miles per hour be blurry in a photograph?
  • The picture is of a 757, and the tower was hit with a 767.
